Hello All,
I found an old #25 (1936-1952 - Plymouth) that is missing the butt stock.
Has 2 stock screws thru the reciever and one screw at the end of the tang.
I also have all the screws. I think the stock cracked right off at some point.
I believe this stock was a pistol grip type.
I also have one of the brand new 25's (made in China) which also has the pistol grip style stock.
The stock is different. It has a different trigger guard screw in the bottom,
and 2 screws in the tang (one high and one at the end) where the older only has one and no screw near the trigger guard.
Basically, the difference is the new model uses 5 fasteners total (2 thu receiver, and 3 wood screws) and the old one only uses 3 (2 thru reciever and one woodscrew).
In any case, was going to make a replacement copy (I'm pretty handy with wood)
Was going to use the modern 25 stock as a template for the old 25 which will get me close, but realized other than the basic shape being the same, the area where it mates to the receiver is much different. It must have different clearance cut outs than the new model.
Does anyone have a template of the stock for this variation, some really good high res photos or even one for sale in good shape and not an arm and a leg?
Also, what kind of wood was it originally made of?
Also, I believe the original older 25 stock had some serrations on the butt end?
I would need to know how many, and their relative dimensions.
I could take a trial and error guess as to the shape and configuration of a replacement, or try to carve one by looking at a photo, but if anyone has info to make the job easier, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks!
