    Posted: January-19-2024 at 4:29pm
A friend recently uncovered his first BB gun, it is an 86/70. It's way down on power and he wanted to know what size the seals were, but I couldn't answer him.

So, can anyone here help?

Mark,  Seeing that the gun is from the 70's and if it has original or old hard seals, they should have taken a set in the air chamber and you can get the measurement from the old seals.  He's going to have to break it down anyways.  This would reveal any other issues that it might have.

Mark, I have one of these in pieces somewhere I have to dig it out. I forget if the seal plunger head was any good or not but I would be able to measure that. If I can find it. Try to do that tomorrow sometime.
Unfortunately, these guns are held together by rivets and you’ve got a drill them out to get gun apart.

I was wondering about that. It seems JG Airguns has the rivets, so at least there's that. Odd they would use rivets, though.

Those rivets are why I didn't do an internal job on mine. Just cleaned, oiled and let it be original as factory.

OK I am not good at measuring stuff, but to me the widest part of the plunger head (where it meets the abutment washer)  is 29/32 of inch. and base of plunger head 7/8 inch.
Here are pics of the 86/70 plunger.  Do not know if this will help or not.  plunger head is hard and dried out a bit. Appears to me to be just like a RR model 1938 plunger.

Thanks for the measurements and photos! I have to agree it's like a No. 1938 Red Ryder.
