Daisy 717 Rear Sight

   New member and just discovered this board. Just bought a used 717 as a project practice airgun to work on before I reseal my 747. The 717 rear sight is broken off and needs to be replaced. Tried Daisy but the part is out of stock (forever) and I can’t find one anywhere on the net. Would use a 777 rear sight but, as you all know, they are also impossible to find. I am mechanically challenged and need clear directions before I try anything with metal objects.  With that in mind, I have a few questions for you experts. 
1. Is there a reasonable priced commercially available rear sight that could be simply modified to fix the problem ?

2.  If no metal sights can be modded, is the a way to mount a red dot. I have a few of the Crosman variety that I could use.  

By the way, I currently have a new in box 777, a resealed 777, and a 747 that needs to be resealed. Other Daily airguns include 853 and 953 rifles.
