$5 in November, 1938 = $92.18 in today's dollars.

The 1968 price of +/- $22.95 = $167.30 in today's dollars.

That was a LOT of money back in 1938....SORRY !!!! Have to tell this story. My dad bought our 75 Acre farm in 1938 for $2000. He had $15 in the bank and borrowed the rest from the auctioneer who was selling it as a forecloser. Dad never signed a paper...just a hand shake.  How does that song go..."Times they are a changing..."

Interesting story, Marv.  That $2,000 would be $36,872, or $492/acre in 2020 dollars.  Sounds like a pretty good deal.

Land here in NW OH is selling for $8-$10,000 an acre...if decent buildings add another $2000...and you better buy fast.

Thanks for that link to the Popular Mechanics ad. I noticed one of the ads had a date of 1939. Back in the old days I always liked looking at the Daisy ads and I remember the ad for the single shot Daisy . It was $1.25. On this site I once saw an for the same single shot and it was $1.00.

Daisy had a lot of bb gun ads with a Father & Son in them, with a number of different bb guns. In spite of some  posters  thinking the double barrel's were made for adults I believe they were for kids probably  in the 10-14 yr. old's. Not many families in my area could afford one, none of the kids i grew up with had one.

I was born in 1962 South Georgia / North Florida area. I had the model 21 as a 9 yr old hunting the woods😊. We all had guns. I cocked it all the time. Loved the gun

In the 1940's after the war we had to be contended with a Red Ryder, Model 25 etc. [if you were lucky].all made by Daisy. I got my Red Ryder  as a gift for selling seed packets.
