Ha! I promise I took pics of my own Red Ryders, and wasn't creeping around your house, Fuse!  [:^)

From those pics it looks like an earlier stock, more likely form 1983.  In the beginning of the Christmas Dream series, it looks like Daisy bought compasses from a variety of sources.  Most are smaller, about the size of a dime.  The later models had a larger compass with the Daisy name written inside.

Here are examples of the smaller ones:

Here is a later, larger Daisy version:

The undrilled stock I picked up was of the later variety, which makes sense.  If Daisy exhausted the mixed supply of earlier compasses, then the leftovers would most likely be the Daisy version.  I've picked up a few small compass stocks as well, and these appeared to be removed from production rifles.

That does look a little familiar!  I picked up my '83 many years ago, still sealed in cellophane, but the cellophane was deteriorating so I opened it to check the contents.  The following paperwork came with the originals:

The sundial directions sheet was an interesting find.  It has directions for use on one side and a history of the sundial on the other.  The boxed 1984 rifle I picked up came with the remnants of one of these sheets, which seems to indicate there is a possibility Daisy packaged them this way.

I HAVE 2 RED RYDER BB GUNS WITH THE COMPASS IN THE STOCK.

THE FIRST ONE HAS A JAPAN COMPASS. MARKED JAPAN BETWEEN THE S & THE SE LIKE IN PIC NUMBER 2 ABOVE. THE LOT # IS 91064456. HAS NO WARNING ON TOP OF BARREL. COCKING METAL LEVER.

THE SECOND ONE HAS THE SAME COMPASS. LOT # 0295 05858. IT DOES HAVE THE WARNING ON TOP OF BARREL AND A PLASTIC LEVER.

IM CONVINCED THAT THESE ARE NOT FROM 83' OR 84'. BUT I THINK THE STOCKS ARE.
BOTH HAVE WHAT APPEAR 84' BOXES WITH THE CHRISTMAS STORY STICKER APPLIED.

Thanks for posting the original paperwork that came with the Christmas Story gun. I bought mine with the cello already long gone along with all the paperwork. The manual is an easy find...the other two may take some searching. I'd love to get it all back together. In fact when I bought it the gentleman shipped it without the card. I was a bit shocked. He thought I wouldn't be interested in that old piece of cardboard. I got right back to him....hoping it was not already in the landfill. He was into graphic arts and made that Christmas Story label for me from a downloaded picture he found. The compass in mine is the smaller version in the upper left of the examples you posted.

If I couldn't get that, I'd just leave it in my attic for another few years. That's assuming the gun was truly an original and in 100% condition and it was a cello wrapped...carded one. I have a feeling that collectors would value a carded, cello wrapped Christmas Story gun above the boxed ones. I know that folk swear there were boxed Christmas story originals but....... BTW one has to be very careful as this gun has been counterfeited alot. You need to check the registration # to be sure it was made in a lot that were to be Christmas story guns. Don't know how much that helps you with the one you speak of. Good luck with it.
OK, OK. I do have alot of airguns and some folk might call that a collection. They are lots of fun. However, I'm not married to any of them....I'm married to Karen. Wink
Not a collector.....who are you kidding!!  Wink

The one I got in the cardboard and cellophane package has the same compass as yours.  I wonder how close the lot numbers are? Mine is from lot 3J02071.

Until I opened this one, I hadn't seen any with the card describing the sundial.  I assume it was one of the first things kids shot at when they tried out their new BB gun, or ended up tossed out.  The partial one that came with my boxed '84 is the only other one I have seen.
