Hi, you didn't say how old and strong your grandson is
as my experience with a model107 is that it's a monster to cock. It's straight pull, short travel slide ain't that easy to operate, especially with a good plunger spring in it. Some other members here may have easier experiences with it but I might opt for a Number 25 or Red Ryder for a younger shooter. |

I agree the 107 is a lot harder to cock than a 25, no mechanical leverage from the 'elbow' action.
The 'newer' plastic stocked ones are easier than the original wood stock guns. I think they put in a weaker spring. Both the seller and I thought the first Buck Jones I bought was broke/jammed because it was so stiff. But it does cock and shoot. Gary
