The 1200 was made between 1977 and 1995. Obviously the number stamped into the left rear of the gun should be used whenever possible, but in cases where the number isn't available like from photos, this can help narrow the date of a particular gun. Also, there were changes made to the number formatting and those changes, along with clues from the gun in question, can be used to determine what the year is. This is a work in progress, so there are gaps that need to be narrowed down. Feel free to add whatever info you can to help make this more complete. Additional info on dating Daisy guns: HOW
TO TELL WHEN MY GUN WAS MADE- Reg/Lot No. code WHEN DID LOT NO. CHANGE TO LOT (no “NO.”)? WHEN DID LOT CHANGE TO JUST THE NUMBER (no
“LOT NO.” or “LOT”)? WHEN DID SERRATIONS ON TOP RAIL BEGIN AND END? (more
data needed to narrow this down- photos showing the top of guns are
scarce) WHEN DID BREECH CHANGE TO PLASTIC? WHEN DID “U.S. PAT.” BEGIN? WHEN DID ADJUSTABLE WINDAGE END?
WHEN DID BB VIEW PORT END? 1979 May LOT NO. E982477 does not have viewport
WHEN DID BILLBOARDS START?
1988 Sept. 8J09272 Has billboards both sides
WHEN DID GRIP RETENTION CHANGE FROM BALL & SPRING DETENT?
WHEN DID DAISY GRIP EMBLEM BECOME MOLDED IN?
1986 Sept. 6J40343 is molded
WHEN DID PIERCING CUP CHANGE? 1992 May 2E12961 has large silver cup 1993 Feb. 3B04711 has small black cup

Thanks Mark. My 1st var. 1200 is dated Nov. 1977, by the lot no. Earliest 1200 I have found and I've found a lot of them. They are a favorite of mine.

This is my first one, it's 4-81 and a good shooter but it has too many misfires (shots w/o a BB in place).
This is the one I just got that I need the cup for, it's a '77 like yours.

Nice lookers. I had a similar issue with misfires. I emailed you about it. Turned out that the holes in the BB "shuttle" affair were not quite lining up. A couple minutes with the Dremmel solved that problem. The gun is so easy to work on that you can have it apart and back together in 5 minutes. I love the BB window in the early models. You can see the BB drop into the breach.

BTW, you are the reason I got a 1200! I also want a CO2 200, I'd prefer to find one that has been leakproofed, like how Jimmie here does it but haven't run across one yet. But the 1200 is a great BB pistol IMHO- accurate with a very good trigger. Add the adjustable sights and that makes it almost ideal. I just miss having true semiauto like the 200.
Same here on the window. After the first gun misfiring I immediately understood the benefits of having it. When I look inside my '81 I'll pay attention to the shuttle alignment, thanks.

You're welcome on the 1200 refer.
Yeah, the two holes that need to line up are both dependant on friction fits between steel and aluminum tubes..... and both fittings are "hammered" over and over every time you shoot it. I figure one or the other drifts over time. And mine is over 40 years old.
