RC was good- we'd pour salted peanuts into the bottle after a couple swigs were gone. I also liked Frostie root beer and NeHi strawberry. Grapette was another good one. As a Florida boy, we were excused from school every freeze if we worked lighting the smudge pots to keep the groves from losing oranges. Hard work but fun, too. We always took our rimfires and ate rabbit and quail cooked on a spit over an open fire. Sometimes the foremen would give us a beer or two to pass around. Different world back then.

Fargo pop was a good second choice. Our high school had a rifle team, as did most. No air guns for us. We used live rounds. Girls and boys. Good times.

Our little town's high school didn't have a rifle team. No archery either. Heck, we didn't even have a pool, but we did have a beautiful lake to swim and fish in. The white sand beachfront was 4 blocks long and had accesses at both ends. Cruising "lake shore drive" in your first car was a right of passage- we used to drive on it just like a fresh water Daytona.
