I did the same. Got a bunch off of Dennis Baker the last time I was at his shop. Getting a little low on them so I'll have to take another ride to his shop soon to get some more. They do come in very handy!

Got to say it again. Unless you guys are dead set on making them yourself, I bought a bag of them from Dennis a couple years ago. Look exactly like the originals. Got a bunch of the blued lock washers as well. Think I have 1/2 a dozen of each left. They come in mighty handy. Fascinating that Daisy went so far afield with these things when there were plenty of more common solutions to their fastening needs. Maybe they got a great deal if they bought two billion on these nuts and bolts. French army surplus?

You can but everything in the stores seems to be nickle plated these days. A fastener specialty store could probably get them in plain steel and you could cold blue them. The small head screws on the first RR's are another story altogether.

Have learned alot here the past couple of days.Now how about the screws.The funny thing is they are like domed shaped at the end.Any ideas or thoughts on how to do it or if you can buy them
