I have posted here before about some Daisy Premium Zinc
BBs that are oversize and jamming in Red Ryder's. I even called Daisy about this and was told they were aware and were making Corrections. Today, while shooting with my little Red Ryder group, two Guns got locked down by oversized BBs again. So I have to tear them down To clear the defective BB and reassemble them again. And that is a lot Of work. So, unless you want to take a chance and possibly disassemble Your gun, STOP using these Daisy BBs. I will call Daisy again to be told they are Very sorry for my trouble and they are checking on the problem at their factory in China. And that my friends is the problem: crap made in China. |

Remember, you can check a lot of bbs really quickly with a small funnel and a length of spare barrel! I just pour my new containers of bbs through that into the container I just emptied. Quick personal q.c.

Checking the BB size before you load them into your gun is a good idea. Maybe Daisy should check the BB's before they leave the factory. They could just roll the BB's over a sizing screen to eliminate the oversized BB's. They should also look over their production process to discover what is causing the problem. I don't believe it is the customers job to do their quality control. I'm happy that Daisy has made so many good products for so many years. I love collecting them. I don't own any Daisy product that is stamped MADE IN CHINA.

What I'm surprised by is, Daisy didn't see fit to mark their BBs by lot number. If they had done so, culling out the suspect lots would have been uber easy. Thankfully I haven't encountered any o/s BBs yet, but I have several thousand... well 48,000 to be exact... that are still in the wrappers

It may not be that big a deal on guns with screw out
Barrels but an os BB lodged in a modern gun like the Red ryder will cause you to say words that years ago would cause Your mother to wash your mouth out with soap. |

Because we have about 18000 of these suspect BBs,
I made a poor man's sizing screener. Start with a plastic Cereal bowl. From eBay I bought two drills, 11/64, which are 4.3mm just short of Daisy's 4.5. They cost about 6$ with free shipping. Now, drill a bunch of these 11/64 holes through the bottom of the bowl. With a scratch all or your ice pick, enlarge the holes to allow BBs to pass through. This takes some trial and error. With the cereal bowl over a larger one , fill it with BBs and do a little shaking and banging to get the BBs through the holes and into the catch bowl. When and if you find an oversize one, you have just saved yourself a bunch of trouble. PS. I heard back from Daisy and they want me to send the saved os BBs to them so they can get their QA people on it. |

Thank you VERY much, Daily!!!! I too found this problem, ~3 years ago when training Cub Scouts in a day camp: far too many DAISY BBs jammed in the barrels (maybe 3%?) which, as you know, are a real PAIN in the KEESTER to clear! I later mic'd ~30 Daisy and ~30 Crosmann Cprhd BBs: the LARGEST Copperheads were smaller than the SMALLEST Daisys! I notified many Scout leaders of this, and MOST of them do NOT try to use Daisy BBs now.
This event MIGHT have been caused by a fluke/bad batch of BBs, but it happened. I emailed this info to Daisy: NO reply, ever. Last week, when I talked to Daisy about parts and HEAT effect on Buck rifles, their Tech on the phone said they'd not heard of Daisy BBs not fitting... :-( Meanwhile, one CubScout said his uncle gave up on Daisy BBs in Bucks, due to jamming, while the old crusty volunteer BSA RangeMaster said he's been shooting Daisy BBs for >30 years, with no trouble. I guess it's a variable, come-and-go problem, likely on a batch by batch basis. Still it IS a QC issue for Daisy! ---Barrika |

Thanks for your report. I had no idea this problem went
back at least three years ago. I have not heard back from Daisy since I mailed them the OS BBs. They did offer to fix any guns that may need repair due to jammed BBs. I have been shooting Blasters steel BBs from Pyramid Air and just got in some more Daisy Avanti BBs. I mic'ed the Blasters at .172 to .173. The Avantis came in at .173 to .174. Other folks I shoot with are still using the Daisy Premium Zinc but Only after screened. |

This is correct, and they have no business making bb's in China in the first place. BB's could and should be made here in the USA, no question about it!! I am so sick of everything I pick up says "Made in China".... I hope Trump can put an end to this, but I doubt it!! OK my rant for this day!!
