The 140 had a solid wood frame, like the No. 40 with the bayonet. It had a dummy bolt action, that was the safety. When you cocked it, the bolt would raise up. You had to push it down to fire it. Only made on year. 1941. WWII broke out, so they stopped production. Alot of people think the No.40 was a Defender. It was not.

Rick is correct about the No. 40. It was known as the Military Daisy. The No. 140 was the first one to be called a Defender. Both are pretty cool.

The 140 WWII Defender was wood, the 141/142 Korean war were plastic.

I own both the 140 Defender and 40 with original bayonet and tip (I need a strap). Took about 10 minutes to figure out the bolt was the safty😅 on the 140.

I have a 104 double barrel that just got back from the gun smith who Took apart and cleaned, leather sealed, and tighten up.

Great guns to target shot in the suburban neighborhood. As well as rabbits, squirrels and chipmunks👍🏻

BBs just bounce off
