I'm not 100% sure this 141 Defender is blued, but I do think it is.
Try to ignore the gorilla glue holding the forearm in place. Take a look at what they did to read the stampings: |

At least they didn't use an angle grinder
I once read and used a pre-1980 penny and RemOil to remove surface rust.

You see a lot of them where they used sandpaper/steel wool to remove the finish.
Banjo mans way is much better. Even using an LED flashlight and magnifying glass can help see through the patina without removing any of it. Gary

Here's a little Heloise tip. The original paint would have been electrostatically processed but if a repaint is suspected, fresh uncured fill up the roll stamp filling spray paint can be "melted". In lieu of using paint stripper, a little brake fluid will do a decent job. I once accidentally ruined a newly painted car by dripping some on a fender. (Oops!)
