I'm trying to get an idea of the rarity of a red ryder that my grandfather gave me. It's been wrapped up in his closet for over 50 years. I was honored when he gave it to me and I don't think I could ever sell it but I still would like to know how rare it is. I know there are still many of them out ther but considering it's condition, I am curious to see how it ranks. You can view it at www.patriotpups.com/redryder. It's the classic 111-40 from Plymouth, Michigan. If anyone has any info, I'd appreciate it, thanks.

Hi

The rifle was made from about 1940-42 and some were made about 46 right after the war.The rifle is collectable. The best way to get the value is compare yours to others on the auction sites. From your pictures I would think it would sell pretty high.

Your Red Ryder is one of the earliest. It has the copper bands, adjustable sights, cast iron cocking lever. It looks like it is in pretty good condition. A wonderful family heirloom.  KD  http://www.bbairguns.com/redryder.htm
