Is there any trick to getting the plunger assy out of a wide reciever Daisy like this mod 1000? My regular spring compressor will not work on it.

The assembly is removed same as others. Are the tool legs long enough to compress the spring far enough so the spring anchor can be removed?

I have found that the outside dimensions of the spring tool is critical. The one I use for the modern Red Ryders, etc, is too tight for the wide frame guns. If you use a tool made of 2 rods in a wood block, you may need to grind the outer sides of the rods or try thinner rods.

I was using 3/8 x 1/16 strap. It was a little tight, but after they were radiused, they fit right in.
Thanks for telling me they came out the same. Figured I'd better be safe than sorry.

I use these 1/8" tool steel drill rods to make my spring tool. They work perfectly and will not bend.

Got this one shooting today! With one of cobalt's high performance springs, it shoots great. Curious thing, it is easier to cock than the Red Ryder with the same spring. Shoots faster too, even though the Red Ryder has a 7/64 air tube.
Does the higher pivot of the lever make that much of a difference?

The pivot location does affect the leverage to a noticeable degree!

I've been toying with an idea for using a new style cocking lever on the old style (i. e. 111-40) lever guns. I may have results in a week or so. I'll let yinz know how it turns out.

That's great for replacing a missing low pivot lever. Nice innovation. I'm hoping to make a high pivot lever work in its natural form to ease the cocking effort. Almost have it worked out. |
