I am a new fan of Daisy. So please forgive me.
Is 881 or 880 stamped on the barrel shroud of the 881?
I just bought an 881. The barrel shroud says 880. Also I can’t tell if the receiver is actually an 881 or if someone scrubbed the black off of it to make it look like an 881.
Will the lot number tell me if it is an 880 or 881?

As far as i know, they are stamped "881". The lot number won't tell you whether or not it's an 881, but it will tell you the month and year it was stamped.

In the photo, the top gun is a 1981 w/spot welded rear sight and plastic elevator, the bottom is a 1975 w/screwed on sight and steel elevator:

FWIW, when you see an 880 with a screwed on rear sight, you can bet it came from the factory with a smoothbore barrel. Spot welded sight = rifled barrel.

The reason the date could matter is the 881 was ended after 1986. So if the date of the gun in question is newer, that would tell you it's not an 881. I'd look carefully at the bore to see if it is rifled. If it is, it will at least function the same as an 881. But even if it is an 881, it would appear the shroud has been changed.
