I have recently seen on the Wal Mart website a new Red Ryder being offered. It is called the Daisy Red Ryder Christmas Wish.It has the compass and sundial in the stock. It is just like the Christmas Dreams that are offered every 5 years through the Daisy Museum.Only difference is it isn't numbered and there is no engraving on the gun other than the sundial on one side and the Red Ryder mural on the other. The best part is it only costs $28.70....The question I have is this a Wal Mart exclusive?.I've looked all over the internet and can't find any info on it.I've looked here and I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned it on here, unless I missed the post. But when I try to order online from Wal Mart they say that it cannot be shipped to my zipcode. But that's funny as my local Wal Mart still sells bb guns in the store.I've put in various zip codes from different states and it does the same thing.Does anyone have any info on this gun and how to get it?

I just ordered mine but had to buy some targets for the free shipping.  So it seems Arizona is ok for Walmart to send BB guns to.  I'm sure there are some states that are tightening there grip on the deadly BB gun getting into the wrong hands.

I've been investigating on the Walmart site.I live in Ohio but they will not ship to Pennsylvania or Michigan either. But they will ship to Indiana. But they won't ship to a store.Only a physical house address. So if any of you fellow bb gun collectors know of any friends that live in Indiana, you better order these guns now and have them shipped to your friend. As for me it looks like I'm out of luck.I'm not gonna drive half way across the country for a bb gun as much as I do want it.

Posted By: Scottie
Date Posted: October-21-2020 at 7:04am
It looks like Kentucky and West Virginia will also ship but New York will not.But still you have to have an actual address, they won't ship to a store.....You know it's funny,I live about 20 miles from where they filmed "A Christmas Story" in Cleveland,Ohio and this movie is all about this bb gun.But the residents of the state of Ohio are deemed unfit by "whoever" and we are not allowed to have a bb gun of all things, shipped to us.But yet Walmart still sells bb guns and air rifles and real firearms for that matter at my local store....The way they are selling this gun only certain "haves" can get it and the "have nots" cannot get it.Sounds like politics if there ever were any.Anyway....it's gonna be a rare collectable down the road as half the country won't be allowed to get the thing in the first place.

Something seems funny about this.   I've ordered Daisy's from walmart.com before without issues.   Now my PA zip code is on the naughty list.   I'm thinking it's less about politics and more about supply. At least I hope so.   My local Walmart has lots of guns in stock but not this particular one.

Spent over an hour on the phone this morning talking to assorted Wal-Mart"associates" (Some of whom could barely speak english). Explained that I have received BB guns from wal-Mart on numerous occasions in the past...None of them could explain why I get the message "Can't pick up in store and unable to ship".  One tried to say it might be a problem with the trucking companies. Wal-Mart won't deliver, but UPS, etc. would ???????
Is this another of those deals where only wal-mart is selling? and Daisy Museum knows nothing?

Like you I can't understand why they won't ship it to the store.
They ship BB guns and real guns and ammunition to the store.

I just placed an order and they're saying it'll come tmorrow with free shipping- but no in store pickup. Seems odd, but what do I know.

I wonder if I could order one here, and successfully replace my shipping address with someone elses's address who has been turned down? If anyone wants to try this, email me your shipping address and we'll see what happens.

Anyone else notice the photo shows a saddle ring staple that's flat steel instead of plastic? That was last used on Red Ryders about 2001.

I have noticed on ebay that someone is already cashing in and selling one for $115.00.He is throwing in a Red Ryder starter kit,but that only costs him $10.00 extra. The gun does have a very cool retro box with "A Christmas Wish" printed on it though...Let's see.He gave $28.60 for the gun and $10.00 for the starter kit.So add a little tax to that and he has maybe $41.50 in the whole package. So he's making a good 65% profit...Capitalism at work my fellow unlucky friends and these are fresh off the boat from China....But I was talking to a manager at my local Walmart and he was saying that he wouldn't be surprised if these were part of the Black Friday sales that will be coming up...That if a whole case or 2 of these guns weren't shipped to the store that they would probably have a limited few of these inside the regular Red Ryder displays that they always have for Black Friday.Kind of like a hidden treasure extra for customers to hunt down and find. That's if there are any actual physical Black Friday sales.Maybe us "have nots" will get a little luck thrown our way for the holiday seasons...Like little Ralphie with his gun....He thought he wasn't gonna get one then bam,the old man came through.

I received my Walmart Christmas Wish Red Ryder, not a bad looking gun for $29.00.   The box is nice and colorful and perfect for a Christmas Gift.  There is a small plastic pick or punch that came with it, does anybody know what this is used for?  I didn't see anything in the manual about it.  Maybe its for poking your eye out without actually using the gun.  Nice compass and the sun dial has the hole drilled for a match so you know when to come home for supper.

That little plastic pick is the style for the sundial.Yes...that gun does look nice.Better than I anticipated. Is the lever aluminum? It looks like it but it's hard to tell.I haven't given up hope yet as I might be able to get my hands on one of these blue steel beauties....Just have to keep my fingers crossed.

Jackdog your right they probably are on the no ship list. The last time I bought BB’s there they wanted to see a drivers license. Hey guys thanks for the heads up on the sundial pin, I never even thought of that but it works perfectly. I looked at it and thought it was some kind of tool for the gun but didn’t even think of the sundial, duh.

Scottie, I believe the cocking lever is aluminum, I tried to bend it or flex it but it is very stiff and will not move. Hard to tell with the coating on it and I didn’t want tap on it and chip it. I believe it might be metal and not plastic.

Very cool. This Red Ryder Christmas Wish seems to be the super bargain of the year....You get the compass and sundial. You get a style to actually use the sundial with, instead of sticking a stick in the hole.....Remember some of the Christmas Dreams didn't even have a hole to put a style in.They were just fake sundials.Plus you might be getting an aluminum lever (according to twocompassheads) and a retro styled box.All for a very reasonable price......The only drawback is it's made in China...But most of the Christmas Dreams were too, they were just reassembled with the special forearm and stock in the USA.And now I see that Walmart is all sold out.But if what that Walmart manager told me is true us "have nots" will be getting our chance to obtain one of bad boys this Black Friday....I don't know about you but I'll be ready, just like Ralphie was on Christmas morning.

One way to tell is the metal lever has a black plastic insert.

Thanks, Dennis. It's a pretty good buy for what you get. I haven't found the time to open mine yet.

Something else I didn't know is the sundial hole is slanted for the hand. I believe the earlier Christmas guns were straight up and down, but I could be wrong.

Just  NOTE  on the availability of this gun at Walmart....  They are not out of stock on this item, but  I was informed that:

Walmart is removing guns and ammo from shelves and display cases in all stores as a precaution amid 'civil unrest'

and that includes mail order...  It will return.  It may also explain why some folks are having trouble ordering this, when in the past they had no problems... ???

This intrigued me, so I checked online and two of our three WM's here in Indiana had them in stock.  Decided to pick one up this morning, but they only had the regular Red Ryder.  When I asked the clerk, he mentioned there may have been a new shipment arrive, and on the computer inventory, but not on the shelves yet.
So, he checked and then ask me to follow him.  We walked around to the main aisle of the store, and there sat a pallet, with a huge box on it.  He proceeded to cut it open, and voila!  There sat about 100? new Red Ryder Christmas editions with the compass and sundial.  So, I picked one up.  I think it was about $25.XX something.  Inserted a photo, but did not seem to open in the post.

One of the local WMs had a boat load of them so I indulged. The gun and retro box are what you might expect but the gold painted forearm band and metal lever are not featured on the box.   I had to open it up just to be sure.

Good news. These guns are now in Ohio at Walmart stores in the big jumbo Red Ryder display. And for $25.74....Remember,they were online for $28.60.So almost $3.00 cheaper. And Ohio was one of the states that they wouldn't ship to....So finally I get to lay my hands on one of these cold steel beauties....The gun itself is much better than I thought it would be....Aluminum lever....That's $5.00-$7.00 right there.Nice colored wood finish...Remember some of the 1938B Red Ryder wood finishes from around 2000-2010?....They looked like they were dragged through the mud for the wood stain color....Not this one....This has a good finish to it.....Plus a real working sundial. And a style for the sundial.(I think only one of the Christmas Dreams had a hole for the sundial. And it wasn't slanted..Plus you didn't get a style to use with it.)....The original 1983-1984 Christmas Story Red Ryders had a slanted hole if I remember...Plus a rather good looking compass. And a real metal saddle ring loop instead of that plastic one they used on previous 1938Bs..Plus the cool retro box to wrap it all up in..This is a very good deal and because they are now available to everybody no one should have to buy one from ebay. They are now going anywhere from $60.00-$115.00 on ebay....So tell your neighbors, tell your friends to get'em while they can at Walmart.Put the 1%ers out of business....Now I can rest at night knowing that I finally got one of these babies, just like Ralphie did.

I picked up the Christmas Wish today at Wal Mart, Porter, TX. The cocking lever is metal and the forearm band is gold. Got it for $24.75 plus tax. The imprint of the Sundial and Compass are on the side of the original Daisy. Original 1940's Daisy RR had the Red Ryder on the left and Daisy switched sides later on in the 60s. The Sundial imprint could be a little deeper but not a big deal. Nice Christmas box. The wood finish is the satin orange/brown. I think I'll Tung Oil it to brighten it up.

MarvMar....The guns being sold on Walmart.com now are being sold through 3rd party sellers. If you notice it says sold and shipped by....whoever the seller is,not Walmart. So Walmart itself isn't selling the Christmas Wish gun online. They must've sold out of them all....But I did go to my local Walmart to see if any were still in the store for sale and low and behold there were about 15 still on the shelf. And they were still $25.74 each.So naturally I had to pick up a couple more.If anybody wants one of these I urge them to get them while they can at a Walmart store.

Well it looks like Walmart.com is back to selling the "Christmas Wish" online again. For $25.74.But it's back to where they won't ship to Ohio again...Beware,there are still some 3rd party sellers selling them on Walmart.com for outrageously high-rip off prices ($89.95)right alongside Walmarts reasonable price.

I just saw this post. They have these in stock at my walmart. Let me know if I can help anyone out. It is $25.74. No sales tax in my state. We will figure out the shipping cost. I just checked Walmart is charging $5.99 for shipping. That is better than I can do unless you can’t get walmart to ship it to you.

Hello once again.I only post every so often, but I am wondering if the Red Ryder "Christmas Wish" guns that are available at Walmart this year are any different than the 2 previous years?I bought a couple from the first year. And skipped the 2nd year as the box looked identical to the first year.Has anybody bought any of this years gun and compared them side by side?Maybe the sundial might be a little smaller or larger?Or maybe the compass is different.Like how all of the "Christmas Dreams" have slight variations. My local Walmart hasn't received any as of yet.Unless they are out for sale now.I mean,I don't go there every single day as people have lives to live and work to do.But I see they are available online but you can't compare it until you've bought it.And I can't see buying a couple if it is the exact same gun from previous years as they're all China made.I mean,it's not like they are all super limited edition "Made In USA" guns. Thanks for any response.

Scott,  It looks like they are exactly the same as the 2020 guns.  You notice they have the compass and sundial on the right side of the gun so these stocks can't be used on other original Christmas dream guns.  The Red Ryder and the sundial stamping are done well and pushed into the wood with a press.  The lever is aluminum and overall, a pretty good looking gun.  The compass on these guns has a black background and the original 25th anniversary Christmas gun had a white background so they can't be changed or pirated.  The box on all of these newer guns says Christmas Wish and the originals all are Christmas Dream.

Thank you for the information twocompassheads. Are those pictures from a new gun from this year?Because they do look exactly like the 2020 version. It would be cool if there were little subtle variations between the years. They would sell more than they could probably make if there were differences.

Scott, the pictures above are from this year, I picked it up a week before Thanksgiving.  The pictures on page 2 and 3 of this post is the gun from two years ago.  It's a winner for Walmart to sell these, they sell many thousands of them.
