I recently received a really sweet Red Ryder pop gun. The forearm and stock are in like new shape and the receiver is also. One thing though. There are 2 holes on the RIGHT side of the receiver under the gold stencil that look as if it could accommodate a saddle ring staple. So far, the pictures I see on the internet all have empty holes.
Does anyone here know if Daisy made this model with or without the saddle ring? I don't do much with pop guns but this one is so darn nice..... ![]() |

Russ, if this is the 938 daisy pop gun — Red Ryder. They were notorious for the saddle ring to fall off the right side of the receiver and left two small rectangular holes, when I get to my computer. I’ll post a couple pictures for you. I’m sure you could figure out a way to retrofit some thing in there if you wanna put a saddle ring on it. Hope that helps.

HERE ARE TWO PICTURES... WITH AND WITHOUT SADDLE RING.
ONLY GUN I KNOW OF THAT DAISY PUT THE SADDLE RING ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RECEIVER. I KNOW THEY ALSO MADE THIS WITH PLASTIC STOCK AND FOREARM, AND DID NOT PUT THE SADDLE RING ON THOSE, HENCE YOU MAY FIND 938'S WITHOUT THE HOLES FOR INSTALLING A SADDLE RING. RICK ![]() ![]() |

Thinking about this gun. Haven’t had one of these for a very long time, but if my memory serves me correctly, which, I doubt at this stage in my life, the staple was actually a plastic staple that snapped into those rectangular holes, and hence was very subject to being broken off or popping out. But I’m not 100% sure about that to be honest. Maybe somebody who has one with a saddle ring in tact can verify that.

Rick, you are right about the plastic staple. Matter of fact I think they were also used on some of the later Red Ryders. You might be able to still get them from Daisy

Thanks fellas. This Is a 938. I have rings and plastic staples. All modern Red Ryders with anti beartrap use them. Also, the furniture is wood and riveted so I believe it's original. I'm going to install a new one.

Butch, thank you for adding that information to this thread. Good to know that information about the staple and that It had leather on the ring. Rick |
