My friend Steve found this for sale and was able to buy it. After some work (HP spring, air tube, and a seal set) he says it's shooting great, and he's having no trouble hitting targets 25 feet away- with no sights!

He sent this tip along: "I noticed that the cocking lever had a lot of side-to-side movement. I found some 6 mm-Wave Lock Washers and managed to install one on each side of the lever. I had to flatten the second one to make it work, but now the lever works very well with no slop".

Nice job, Steve!

Fantastic find !
You don’t run across very many wide-bodies in that kind of shape, must’ve been well cared for.
Very nice !

You know, through the years I have heard that the CMP may at some future date release some Quick Kill guns to be sold to the public. I don't know if there is any validity to it, and even if it IS true I doubt they'll be in good condition appearance-wise, but how cool would it be to have one of those!

Here's something I haven't looked into. Were the Quick Skills (Kills) all stamped 95 and using the 96 furniture? I guess I've been assuming the 95s had a straight wrist and shorter stock along with a short, usually plastic, forearm. I'm in a fog here so please someone set me straight! 🙄

I believe that 's correct- stamped 95 and outfitted with 96 furniture. No discussion of these guns would be complete w/o mentioning the Lucky McDaniel Instinct Shooting Trainer guns, though. They were made using a 99 frame sans sights, wearing a straight stock and a 3-star lever. The one below was made from the first batch of 99s to be stamped April 20, 1959.

Newer 'Lucky' guns used a different logo and a stamped steel trigger:

There was also a model 99 with silkscreening that reads "Daisy Special Instinct Shootin' " on the receiver.

Mark,
Is your friend’s gun actually stamped 95 ?
I’ve always heard 95, but this one really looks more like a 99…right length for what appears to be a spring-feed shot tube, no top loading port, front sling mount different than a 95, and the 99 trigger.
The stock also appears to be about an inch longer than a standard 96 (wish Daisy still made those !)

That's what he said, but I messaged him for confirmation. FWIW, I've documented other guns having the same configuration. And I've documented model 95 QS guns that use a gravity feed shot tube with the loading port on top of the barrel shroud, along with a stamped steel trigger.

Wow !
Guess Daisy just built these out of whatever they had on hand (?)
I’ve been tempted to build an ersatz version out of that oddball 95/96/99 “lunch-hour-special” that I picked up last year, but that would only add to the confusion 100 years from now ! (lol)
