Good luck, Stuart.  Fingers crossed for your success.  Posting pics can be frustrating, but if you can get it done 2-3 times, it is not so hard.

Thank you for that Courtenay. Because you went to all that trouble to put a VERY detailed recipe for posting on here, I'm going to give it a wirl again. Embarrassed

To post photos:

1. First upload your desired photo to a hosting site.  I use Imgur.  Others here use Postimage.

2. When you reply to or start a thread and you want to post a photo, type in your comment, then move your cursor to where you want the photo to appear in your post.

3. Click on the Tree icon in the first row above the window where you put your text (6th icon from the left).

4. This will open a pop-up window titled "Image Properties."

5. In this pop-up window, you will see a blank space in the upper right with a pre-filled "http://" in it.

6. The site where your image is stored will display several types of links that you can copy and use.  Copy the "Direct Link" link.

7. Paste this copied link in the blank space mentioned in #4 above.

8.  If you have a double http:// delete one of them.

9. Just to the right of the blank space where you copied the photo link, click on the rectangular button labeled "Preview"

10. This will cause a preview of your image to open.  It will look YUUUUGE, but that's OK.  It will look normal sized in your post.

11.  At the bottom right of the "Image Properties" pop-up, you will see a rectangular button labeled "OK"

12.  Click on that button and your picture will be visible in your post.

This all sounds more tedious than it is, so give it a try and don't get discouraged.

Man, Fuse, what errors or problems were you facing?  I'm using postimages.org, and doing it is a snap.  The longest part is getting it to postimage.  Once it is there, it is just a matter of copying the "Direct URL" address into the image editing box that pops up when you push the tree icon.

Maybe there is one thing missing.. you have to press "preview" once the picture URL is loaded, in order for it to get into the post.  Might that be the missing step?

By the way, I did a google search, and a while ago there was a big problem with .jpg files (those containing images), carrying virus payloads.  Sure, technology has come a long way since then, but That's the reason this "hoop to jump through"  happened, so long ago.

Heh. Just wasted 20 minutes of my short time on this Earth trying to figure out how to upload images from postimage to this site. I was even following the directions posted on this thread. I'm sure there is a way to do it. They just don't make it user friendly to do it........either there or here. The reason that some great ideas slowly fade and die is stuff like this. I will still visit here. I like it here.....in spite of this policy about posting pics. That said, I spend more time elsewhere........precisely because of their policy about posting pics.

I don't think there is any  problem using postimage, if there was i'm sure someone from the museum would chime in. so far postimage seems simple enough to use, try it out ! tomorrow who knows.

The museum isn't getting a dime off of us *or anyone* for this forum.  If they did, then I'd say there was more of a leg to stand on complaining that posting pictures is using old technology.  But this forum isn't even someone's hobby.  There doesn't seem to be anyone looking in and seeing how things are going.  It seems to be something that was set up and let have a life of its own years ago.  Maybe if Museum staff actually used the site, they'd "feel the pain" of how pictures are posted, and maybe do something about it. But I don't think the look in or use it at all.

On the sites that have advertising, that means there's at least someone paying attention to the business at hand, the site, more actively monitoring and moderating etc.; much more inclined to keep up with changes and technology.  They have to monitor it at least some, to make sure nothing happens that will drive off the advertisers.  It is a business.  This site isn't a business, it is a favor.

So, who here wants to contribute to a pool of money to bequeath to the Museum, earmarked for them to (probably hire a consultant to) upgrade the software (probably cost some more money there) that runs this forum, so pictures can be more easily posted?  My wag is it'd take a couple of thousand bucks.  Or, any savvy web folks have the knowledge to step up and volunteer?  Personally, I wouldn't know where to begin.

Alright, I'm done with my soapbox.  Sorry for the rambles.  I'll slink back to the workshop and get back to installing new springs, and rebuilding 1894s :)

Happy shooting and Daisy-ing to all!

Yep, what he said.
