Hello, Recently picked up a Model 142 Defender in very good condition at an estate sale. It won't cock all the way because the previous owner tried to replace the seal kit with one that is too large. For experimentation, I took the seal kit out of my model 90 (very similar looking gun) to see if it would fit and it also was too large. Any idea where I can get a seal kit for a model 142? Thanks

Rick, a quick look at my parts catalogs shows the 142 used a plunger head part number 42PH .
This is the same plunger head part indicated for the Red Ryder 111/40, and about another 20 guns Daisy made in that time period = 98, 88, 94 carbine, 75, 102, 99, 110, etc. Should be an easy plunger head to find... Rick

Hello Jackdog,
Not sure what's going on but before I
order a seal kit online from someone, I decided to do a little test
yesterday. I took the seal kit assembly out of my model 102 to make
sure it would fit in my model 142. It was far too large to fit in the
142. Not sure what to do now. Most of the gun parts people on the list I
got from Daisy won't even answer the phone, won't return calls, and
won't even return emails.

It could be you have a different 102 then what I referenced. There has been a lot of different 102's. The parts list I had shows the 102 CUB with a 42PH plunger head, the 102 / 33 with a 41K Plunger head, and the 102 / 36 (1950 Catalog) with a 42PH, and 102/36 (1965 catalog) with a 102PH Plunger Head.
Not sure what 102 you have. Sorry I do not have parts or I would help you out further. Regards, Rick

Hi Jackdog! Yes, you are right about the different 102's. That was not a good choice to do my investigation on. I had forgotten that the Daisy Museum sent me the info below on the different 102's and stated that my 102 was assembled in July 1972. There
was a blued finish 350-shot model made only in 1952 then your gun, a painted
finish 350-shot model, made from 1953 to 1978. By the way, this gun
eventually became the model 105, with a mechanical safety, in 1979, and is
still in the company's product line today, marketed as the "Buck"
model 105. On
July 25, 1972, barrel assemblies for model 102s
were stamped with Register Numbers M022000 to M023271 and your gun bearing
number M022263 was among those. Production was continuous so you may
assume that your gun was assembled that date or shortly thereafter. But getting back to the issue at hand, I guess I could just take a chance and order a seal kit from the list you provided that should contain the 42PH Plunger Head. Thanks again. |

Richard, I have used the Daisy current production Model 25 seals in my guns that use the 13/16 inch seals. They should work in your 142. My email is on my profile, let me know if you would like the current schematic to order them.
